Austin Rain 5.23.09

In 2009 my good friend Mark had just moved to Austin Texas. After he settled in I came to Austin to visit him. As soon as I landed in Austin I realized that Mark was not exaggerating about how hot it was. It was 90 but felt like way over 100. One day it suddenly got cooler as the clouds rolled in. It got darker and it started raining. All I could hear was the much needed rain, birds and distant thunder. This was also the first time I saw fireflies. It was a really nice evening, and everyone welcomed the cooling rain. Now its 2011 and Austin is going through a major drought. My friend said that what is usually a really green city, is a shade of dry brown. Hope this rain comes back soon....

I'm back and finally fixed all the posts :)

Wow!

I didn't think it would take me this long to get back to this blog. I've been super busy in the past few year. I got married to my beautiful wife Bella, and we are now expecting a baby boy. I am trying to convince my wife to let me record the birth of our child....We'll see if she says yes. :)

In the mean time I just fixed all of the original posts. All of the clips should be working now. Please let me know if you find any broken or mismatched clips.

I also have plenty of old unprocessed material that I will be putting up shortly.

Thanks for listening!

Star Wars Music at Balboa Park

Almost a year ago, my fiance (who was my girlfriend at the time) and I went to visit her brother in San Diego. On the last day of our visit, she showed me this beautiful park called Balboa Park. It's like a San Diego version of Central Park. Among other amazing things, this park has one of the biggest outdoor pipe organs. As soon as I heard the rich tones of the music playing in the distance, I knew that I needed to start recording. I happen to be there on a special day when the performer decided to perform a Star Wars music. Hope you guys enjoy it as much as I did.

NYC Metro 11.11.08

This audio was captured on a NY metro. We got on and soon after a group of kids boarded and started performing. Some people liked it, others just minded their own business. Still it was something I've never experienced before.

Flamingo Restaurant 11.11.08

This audio was captured at the Flamingo restaurant in New Jersey. My friend Mark and I recently visited New York and we stayed at the Hyatt Regency in Jersey. One morning we woke up really hungry, and we had no idea where we can get some good food. So we asked the concierge who immediately recommended the Flamingo restaurant. It took us a bit of effort to find the place, due to the fact that you can barely notice the Flamingo sign. We walked in, and from the first glance the place looked kind of shady. Little did we know, this was gonna be one of our most memorable experiences of the trip. The food was great and the service was even better. We were serviced by a really nice waitress who introduced herself as "Sophia Loren". She was really nice to us and made sure that our coffee was always topped off, even when the place got super busy. I hope that you can get a sense for her spunkiness in the clip.

Highway 49, Lotus CA

It's midnight, and I find myself wandering along Highway 49, in Lotus California. I am here for some white water rafting at the Mariah camp site. One of the evenings I got a bit buzzed, and decided to go for a walk in the middle of the night. The full moon was out and the crickets were in full effect, only to be interrupted by roaring engines.

4th of July Fireworks 7.4.08

I can't believe its 4th of July again. This year I had the fortune of being invited to a boat party. The plan was to enjoy the gorgeous California day drinking, eating and having some interesting conversations with some really cool people. Then at dusk, it was time to move the party to firework central. So Dan put on the captains hat, started the engine and gracefully maneuvered the party through the marina. We made it to our spot just in time to see the first fireworks glide through the air to meet their blinding destiny in the dark sky. Thanks to Dan and Michelle for such a memorable day.

LAX Terminal 6.23.08

This recording was captured at the Tom Bradley international terminal at LAX (Los Angeles Airport). The terminal was full of anxious travelers trying to pass time. It was early and we just passed through a thorough screening process, but I was happy because I was on my way to paradise.

Airplane 6.23.08

This audio was captured on an Alaska Air flight to Puerto Vallarta Mexico. My intention was to capture the ambiance inside a plane. The flight attendants were professional and kept everyone relaxed with their sparsely comedic spiel. I edited this clip to include the all too familiar safety procedures and the sound of a smooth landing.

Puerto Vallarta Rain 6.28.08

It was 3am and I woke up to the sound of rumbling thunder. I forced myself out of bed with the intention of capturing this rare phenomenon. I was excited! I live in Los Angeles, where rain is rare and thunder is is its long lost cousin. The rain has subsided, but you can still hear the heavy drops trickling down to a surface of their choice. Between the rolling booms of thunder you can also hear thunder of a different kind. It seems that 3am is not an odd time to have an argument. At first I was upset that my relaxing recording was ruined by the sound of people arguing. But then I realized how funny this was. I decided not edit out the argument, and left it in its original form, profanity and all. I hope you enjoy its presence as much as I did. Oh yeah, sorry for all the scratching. The mosquitoes were relentless that night.

Puerto Vallarta Waves 6.29.08

The sound of pounding waves is best described as organized noise. The ocean has been calm since I got here a few days back. This day was different, the waves were stronger than ever. The spray was prevalent, you could smell the salt in the humid air. A few people kept cool, dipping their feet in the swell. The female mosquitos kept me company once again. I am annoyed, I imagine that my blood is irresistible.

Maintaining Riu Vallarta 6.29.08

This morning I woke up with the sun. I found myself walking to the beach, surrounded my an army of cleaning ladies wearing pale blue uniforms. They were out there, quietly doing their job, cleaning the mess that we made the day before. You can hear them mopping the sand encrusted floors, organizing the silverware, and vacuuming the lobby. With birds chirping from above, the pool boy patiently filters out the muck from the calm water. It's still early, the guests are resting up for yet another fun day in the sun. I hope they appreciate the hotel staff.

Los Angeles Avenegers Game 5.31.08

Today my friend Tony invited me to a arena football game. The game was between the Los Angeles Avengers and the San Jose SaberCats. This ended up being a fun game that is similar to American Football, but is definitely more fast paced. I especially liked the fireworks going off every time we scored.
