NYC Metro 11.11.08

This audio was captured on a NY metro. We got on and soon after a group of kids boarded and started performing. Some people liked it, others just minded their own business. Still it was something I've never experienced before.

Flamingo Restaurant 11.11.08

This audio was captured at the Flamingo restaurant in New Jersey. My friend Mark and I recently visited New York and we stayed at the Hyatt Regency in Jersey. One morning we woke up really hungry, and we had no idea where we can get some good food. So we asked the concierge who immediately recommended the Flamingo restaurant. It took us a bit of effort to find the place, due to the fact that you can barely notice the Flamingo sign. We walked in, and from the first glance the place looked kind of shady. Little did we know, this was gonna be one of our most memorable experiences of the trip. The food was great and the service was even better. We were serviced by a really nice waitress who introduced herself as "Sophia Loren". She was really nice to us and made sure that our coffee was always topped off, even when the place got super busy. I hope that you can get a sense for her spunkiness in the clip.

Amtrak Train 11.09.08

This audio was captured aboard an amtrak train. This train was due to depart from the union station in Washington DC. As you can hear in the recording, we experienced some technical difficulties. The problem motor was replaced and several hours later we arrived at the Newark airport.

Highway 49, Lotus CA

It's midnight, and I find myself wandering along Highway 49, in Lotus California. I am here for some white water rafting at the Mariah camp site. One of the evenings I got a bit buzzed, and decided to go for a walk in the middle of the night. The full moon was out and the crickets were in full effect, only to be interrupted by roaring engines.

4th of July Fireworks 7.4.08

I can't believe its 4th of July again. This year I had the fortune of being invited to a boat party. The plan was to enjoy the gorgeous California day drinking, eating and having some interesting conversations with some really cool people. Then at dusk, it was time to move the party to firework central. So Dan put on the captains hat, started the engine and gracefully maneuvered the party through the marina. We made it to our spot just in time to see the first fireworks glide through the air to meet their blinding destiny in the dark sky. Thanks to Dan and Michelle for such a memorable day.

LAX Terminal 6.23.08

This recording was captured at the Tom Bradley international terminal at LAX (Los Angeles Airport). The terminal was full of anxious travelers trying to pass time. It was early and we just passed through a thorough screening process, but I was happy because I was on my way to paradise.

Airplane 6.23.08

This audio was captured on an Alaska Air flight to Puerto Vallarta Mexico. My intention was to capture the ambiance inside a plane. The flight attendants were professional and kept everyone relaxed with their sparsely comedic spiel. I edited this clip to include the all too familiar safety procedures and the sound of a smooth landing.

Puerto Vallarta Rain 6.28.08

It was 3am and I woke up to the sound of rumbling thunder. I forced myself out of bed with the intention of capturing this rare phenomenon. I was excited! I live in Los Angeles, where rain is rare and thunder is is its long lost cousin. The rain has subsided, but you can still hear the heavy drops trickling down to a surface of their choice. Between the rolling booms of thunder you can also hear thunder of a different kind. It seems that 3am is not an odd time to have an argument. At first I was upset that my relaxing recording was ruined by the sound of people arguing. But then I realized how funny this was. I decided not edit out the argument, and left it in its original form, profanity and all. I hope you enjoy its presence as much as I did. Oh yeah, sorry for all the scratching. The mosquitoes were relentless that night.

Puerto Vallarta Waves 6.29.08

The sound of pounding waves is best described as organized noise. The ocean has been calm since I got here a few days back. This day was different, the waves were stronger than ever. The spray was prevalent, you could smell the salt in the humid air. A few people kept cool, dipping their feet in the swell. The female mosquitos kept me company once again. I am annoyed, I imagine that my blood is irresistible.

Maintaining Riu Vallarta 6.29.08

This morning I woke up with the sun. I found myself walking to the beach, surrounded my an army of cleaning ladies wearing pale blue uniforms. They were out there, quietly doing their job, cleaning the mess that we made the day before. You can hear them mopping the sand encrusted floors, organizing the silverware, and vacuuming the lobby. With birds chirping from above, the pool boy patiently filters out the muck from the calm water. It's still early, the guests are resting up for yet another fun day in the sun. I hope they appreciate the hotel staff.

Los Angeles Avenegers Game 5.31.08

Today my friend Tony invited me to a arena football game. The game was between the Los Angeles Avengers and the San Jose SaberCats. This ended up being a fun game that is similar to American Football, but is definitely more fast paced. I especially liked the fireworks going off every time we scored.

Red Bull Air Race San Diego 5.3.08

My brother and I went down to San Diego to see the Red Bull Air Race. This is the second year that this event takes place over the San Diego Bay. Thousands of people congregated at the 2 islands behind the San Diego Convention Center. Before the race started, a helicopter demonstrated the course as it quickly maneuvered between the air filled cones. It was amazing to see the small yet fast planes fly through the course while only feet above the water. Those pilots pulled some crazy stunts without batting an eye. I guess its true what they say "Red Bull gives you wings!"

Santa Monica Pier 4.27.08

This is a great location that was suggested to me by several of my friends. I happen to capture this recording while there was some kind special event. There were several stages where young students were performing classical music. Tents where artists were showing off their latest works of art. Afterwards I walked through the regular pier attractions, which include a carousel, an arcade, and a miniature amusement park.

Santa Monica Farmers Market on Main St. 04.27.08

Every Sunday, farmers from all over Southern California assemble on main street in order to bring us their freshest fare. People come here to shop for a variety of fruits, vegetables, nuts, cheeses, and other delicious items. Then they stay for the freshly prepared meals and live entertainment. One can also experience a pony ride, although I recommend that this one is strictly for the kids. ;)

Long Beach Aquarium 4.26.08

Today I decided to take my folks to the Long Beach Aquarium. I've heard really good things about it from my friend Gary, so I finally checked it out for myself. As you may already know, fish don't make much sound, but I was still able to capture their presence through peoples reactions to their unique beauty.

I was surprised that in addition to all of the sea life, there were also several bird exhibits, including a huge cage full of Lorikeets. These colorful birds were making lots of noise as they chased each other through their habitat.

Soccer At Clover Park 4.23.08

Every Wednesday a bunch of my friends and I get together at Clover Park to play some soccer. Clover park is in close proximity to the Santa Monica Airport, hence you can hear a lot of airplane sounds. I didn't play this time due to a minor injury, so I decided that would be a great opportunity to capture some audio. Sounds like my friend Ho had a pretty good game.

Temescal Canyon 4.20.08

It was a beautiful day, so I decided to go for a hike at my favorite local trail. This trail is tucked away in the middle of Pacific Palisades, about 10 minutes away from Santa Monica. There are many trails in this area, but my favorite is a loop that takes about 1 hour to hike. As you hike you will encounter calming bird songs, rushing waterfalls, reptiles, and rustling of the leaves. There is plenty of parking, which is only $5, and as my friend Jason found out, motorcycles do not park for free. :(

Its getting warm again, this means that its time for beach volleyball and Wildflour with my buds. We get together after work and play some volleyball in Santa Monica. Afterwards the fun continues with engaging conversations, delicious pizza, and cold beer at Wildflour, a pizza joint on Main St. in Venice. This is a recording was created in the back patio as we chat away waiting for he food. Unfortunately I don't have any images of the event because my iPhone did not save the photos. :(

Manhattan Beach Fireworks 12.16.07

My friends Stan and Diana invited me to join them in Manhattan beach for the holiday fireworks show. We got there pretty late so it took us a while to find a parking spot. It was show-time, and there we were running towards the beach. Luckily we got there just as the first shots went off. We all had a blast! literally!

Venice Beach Boardwalk 4.18.08

This audio was captured while walking on the world famous Venice Beach Boardwalk. On this track you can hear the diversity of sounds that make this location what it is. You can hear street performers, merchants, tattoo shops, and the people enjoying a beautiful day in Venice. And the best part is that this craziness exists right outside my apartment.
